About Phillipa…

Phillipa was born in England, but raised in sunny California, where she picked up her mellow, dulcet tones. She was surrounded by music from a young age, with her grandma singing in a choir for many years, and her grandfather being a DJ until the ripe ol’ age of 83. Her mother toured with close-harmony singing duo, and her brother drummed with many Southern Californian bands. Phillipa has performed live as a singer for many years and has written/sung for many bands and artists including Hardkandy, Lo Fidelity Allstars, and Indian Ropeman. However, her proudest achievement is the establishment of the hugely successful song-writing duo, CHICKS WITH HITS www.chickswithhits.co.uk She is also a successful voiceover artist www.calypsovoices.com and can currently be heard playing Max on the CBeebies show ‘Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies’. She has provided voiceovers for numerous TV and radio adverts, including spots for Sony, L’Oreal, Lynx, Levis, Volvo and VISA. You can also hear her playing substantial roles in well-known video games, including “Juiced” and the million-selling “Mirrors Edge”

About Alex…

As a toddler, Alex fell in love with a piano belonging to a friend of his parents, and he has been rhythmically pounding on various articles ever since. An accomplished classical pianist by the age of 12, he switched his attentions instead to the electric guitar during his difficult teenage years, in a largely unsuccessful attempt to impress girls. Moving to Brighton, he joined a succession of bands and toured extensively, playing in such exotic far-flung locations as New York, Barcelona, and, on at least one occasion, Crawley. After spending some time in France and California, he was lured back to Brighton, where he began to experience withdrawal symptoms after a few years away from the piano. Fortunately a mutual acquaintance knew that Phillipa was looking for a pianist, gave him a nudge in the right direction, and their musical partnership was born. As well as Gardenia, Alex also teaches piano, gives solo performances, and plays with Brighton ska / rock and roll orchestra The Meow Meows. www.myspace.com/themeowmeowsband
